Mumbai all-rounder Shardul Thakur came out to bat despite a 102-degree fever in the Irani Cup match at Ekana ground in Lucknow. However, he departed after scoring 36 runs. He was hospitalised where he was tested for malaria and dengue due to fever and his report is yet to come. Shardulwas admitted to the hospital on Wednesday night but the update on whether he will play on the field on Thursday i.e. October 3.
Shardul Thakur came to bat despite fever
The Irani Cup match started on October 1 at the Lucknow ground. Shardul Thakur had a slight fever on the very first day. But on the second day when it was his turn to bat, Shardul Thakur did not back down and he batted on the crease for about two hours with his fellow Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan and made an important partnership of 73 runs for the ninth wicket. While playing his fever got increased which forced him to rush to the hospital.
Shardul Thakur was admitted in hospital overnight
A BCCI source told the Indian Express,
He was feeling unwell throughout the day and had a high fever. This was the reason he came to bat late. He was feeling weak and after taking medicine, he slept in the dressing room. However, despite this, he decided to come to bat. We have done his blood test for malaria and dengue and the report is awaited. Till then he had to spend the night in the hospital.
Sarfaraz Khan hit a double-century
Shardul Thakur presented an unmatched example of love for cricket and despite fever, played an innings of 36 runs in 59 balls with four fours and a six. This was Shardul's first match in domestic cricket after leg surgery in June this year. He was injured in the Ranji Trophy last season, but despite this Shardul continued to play and won the trophy for Mumbai. But his injury recovered again during India's tour of South Africa earlier this year. Due to which Shardul is away from Team India. Mumbai, playing first, had scored a huge score of 536 runs for 9 wickets by the end of the second day. Sarfaraz Khan is playing unbeaten for them by scoring 221 runs.
