The Indian cricket team's captain Rohit Sharma, showed admirable bravery by speaking to the media following an exceptionally subpar performance in a home Test. After India collapsed horribly for 46, their lowest score in a home Test, Rohit took to the media and addressed tough questions. He also broke the silence on why Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli came to bat at number 3.
Rohit Sharma on Virat Kohli
Rohit defended his choice to promote Virat Kohli up the order, stating that the elite batter was prepared to fill in for Shubman Gill who was unable to be a part of this match due to stiffness in his neck.
"Yes, he is a local boy. So he has to bat at 3? (laughs). After a long time, KL Rahul has found a spot at No. 6. We want to make him bat there. The experienced players are the ones who have to take up more responsibility. This time, it was Virat. He was the one who was ready to do that. We asked him whether he can bat at No. 3. Sarfaraz, we wanted to also give him the position that he usually bats -- 4, 5 and 6. We didn't want to change Rishabh and KL. Hence, Sarfaraz went at No. 4 and Virat batted at No. 3. It's a good sign. Players coming up and taking responsibility and owning up the challenge. It's a good sign," said Rohit Sharma in the Day 2 press conference.
Virat Kohli's dismal outing
Due to stiffness in his neck, Shubman Gill was unable to play and Kohli was moved up to No. 3 in his place. After Rohit Sharma was removed from the game early on, Kohli strode into the bat under cloudy skies. The star Indian batter climbed up to the No. 3 spot in Test cricket for the first time in eight years. At the No. 3 position, Kohli's record was not particularly good. In six games at the position, he has only managed to score 97 runs at an average of 16.16. He had never been out of the game for a duck while batting at number three prior to this instance.
