India stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will have to wait longer for their international cricketing outing as there are chances that the upcoming India's while-ball tour of Bangladesh is on the verge of cancellation. India veterans Virat and Rohit have already announced their retirements from T20Is and Tests, and their last international outing came during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where unbeaten India defeated New Zealand in the final to win the title.
India are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series followed by the same number of ODIs against Bangladesh, which is supposed to take place from August 17 and is likely to be cancelled.
"Given the current situation in Bangladesh and the ongoing political scenario, the upcoming tour has become increasingly uncertain. Recent updates suggest that the tour is likely to be affected, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet. The BCCI is expected to make an announcement soon regarding the final decision" Sources close to BCCI told Sports Tak.
The emerging situation strongly suggests that the India-Bangladesh tour is likely to be cancelled. Originally, India was scheduled to visit Bangladesh for a white-ball series. Over the past few days, several hints have pointed in this direction. Another major sign is that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has halted the tender process for its media rights, which was initially scheduled for July 7.
Why is this significant? Because the BCB understands that if India doesn't tour, the value of those media rights will drop drastically. India’s participation adds immense commercial value to any series. As a result, there’s a growing sense that the white-ball series might either be postponed or cancelled altogether. This appears to be the second major indication pointing to that possibility.
If BCCI cancels this tour, then Rohit and Virat will be seen in action in the ODI series against Australia, which is scheduled to start from October 19, 2025. Team India are currently involved in the five-Test match series against England, where the Ben Stokes-led side are leading 1-0.
