Mumbai Indians New York Wicket Keeper Nicholas Pooran (29) and Mumbai Indians New York All Rounder Kieran Pollard (55) shake hands at the end of a Major League Cricket match between Los Angeles Knight Riders v Mumbai Indians New York

Story Highlights:

Sherfane Rutherford played a sensational knock of 86 against MI New York

Trent Boult and Nicholas Pooran's contributions helped MI New York in defeating LA Knight Riders

MI New York recorded their second victory of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 by defeating the LA Knight Riders comprehensively by 8 wickets. Trent Boult was the star for MI New York in the bowling department, finishing his 4-over spell with figures of 4/17. Following this, fifties from both Nicholas Pooran and Monank Patel guided the side to the target of 155 with 13 deliveries left to spare.

Coming to the match, Pooran won the toss and elected to bowl first. This decision would turn out to profit MI New York instantly as Boult dismissed LA Knight Riders opener Unmukt Chand on the very first ball of the match. The former New Zealand pacer didn't just stop there and racked up the wickets of both Andre Russell and Andre Fletcher in the third and fifth over respectively, restricting the LA Knight Riders to 29/3 at one stage.

Rutherford was sensational with the bat against MI New York

The Jason Holder-led side needed some stability and they needed it desperately. This was provided to them by Sherfane Rutherford, who was recently seen featuring for Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2025. He formed a decent 37-run stand with Saif Baidar to take the side over the 50-run mark without losing any more wickets. However, Baidar failed to contribute much and was dismissed for just seven runs in the tenth over.

While Rutherford would continue to dominate from one end, the wickets didn't stop tumbling on the other. Kieron Pollard unexpectedly had a great stint with the ball for MI New York during the match and picked up the big wickets of Rovman Powell (5) and Jason Holder (4) as the LA Knight Riders got restricted to 113/6 after 15 overs.

It was Rutherford who turned out to be his side's saviour in the end as his brilliant knock of 86 which included 5 fours and 6 maximums, carried the team to a respectable total of 154/8 in 20 overs. Boult was the one who would eventually get the prized wicket of of the West Indian to complete a highly impressive four-wicket-haul and give a big chance to MI New York to rack up only their second victory of the tournament.

In reply, Sunil Narine gave LA Knight Riders a great start by dismissing Quinton de Kock in the third over with just 23 runs on the board. However, the duo of Monank Patel and Nicholas Pooran would go on to make the match completely one-sided through their partnership of 112 runs. Both of the batters absolutely dominated against the LA Knight Riders' bowling attack and smashed them all around the Central Broward Park.

Monank would bring up his fifty in the 15th over after facing 38 deliveries and soon after, Pooran would also reach the 50-run mark that too by hitting a six. Russell would get the wicket of Monank in the 17th over but by then, it was too little too late for the LA Knight Riders as Kieron Pollard's blistering cameo of 14 runs from 6 deliveries helped the MI New York in reaching the target of 155 in just 17.5 overs. Pooran was the top-scorer for the side in the match with his unbeaten knock of 62 runs from 47 deliveries.

It was Boult who was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his heroic spell of 4/17 as MI New York registered just their second win of the ongoing tournament. However, this result didn't make any significant change to the standings as LA Knight Riders remained rock-bottom with only two points from eight matches while MI New York remained second-last with four points from eight games.
