Rohit Sharma's India lose top spot in WTC Points Table after embarrassing 0-3 loss against New Zealand at home

After losing 3-0 against New Zealand in the three-match Test series, India dropped out of first place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 points standings. At Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Rohit Sharma's India lost the third and final Test match by a margin of 25 runs on Sunday. Additionally, it was India's first home loss since their 2-0 loss to South Africa in 2000.

With a points percentage of 62.50, Australia rose to the top of the table. India's three consecutive defeats have caused them to fall to second place in the WTC points standings with a points percentage of 58.33. Their necks are being choked by Sri Lanka. The Islanders, who have won five of their last nine games, are not far behind with a points percentage of 55.56.

Following their incredible run on Indian soil, New Zealand won six of their eleven Test matches and surged to fourth place with a 54.55 points percentage. Fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth place go to South Africa (54.17), England (40.79), Pakistan (33.33), Bangladesh (27.50), and the West Indies (18.52).

As they attempt to maintain their aspirations of making it to the WTC final, Rohit and company are in for a difficult ride. Their next matchup is a five-match Test series against Australia. The Perth Test, which begins on November 22, kicks off the series.

India had previously competed in the 2019–21 and 2021–23 finals, losing to Australia and New Zealand. They failed to deliver the clinical performance that was anticipated against the Black Caps. India failed to recover in Pune and Mumbai after being knocked out for 46 in the first innings of the Bengaluru Test.
