Towhid Hridoy becomes 1st Bangladesh batter to score first-class triple century away from home in South Africa

Bangladesh A captain Towhid Hridoy has scripted history on South Africa soil. In the second unofficial Test between Bangladesh A and South Africa A, Hridoy became the first Bangladeshi batter to score a first-class triple century away from home. He is only the third Bangladesh batter to achieve the feat in red-ball cricket. He scored 350 before declaring and broke the record for highest first-class score by a Bangladeshi batter which belonged to former captain Tamim Iqbal.

Iqbal in 2020 had scored 334 runs. 13 years earlier, Rakibul Hasan became the first to achieve the feat with 313-run knock.

Hridoy, who was not a part of Bangladesh’s Test squad on Australia tour, scored an unbeaten 350 from 481 balls at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom. On Day 4 of the game, he helped Bangladesh A post 676/8 in reply to South Africa A's 512. Bangladesh A took a lead of 164 runs.

Hridoy was unbeaten on 204 off 339 balls at the end of Day 3's play with Bangladesh A trailing by 41 runs with four wickets in hand. Nayeem Hasan and Hasan Murad departed early into Day 4's play. Musfik Hasan supported Hridoy and shared an unbeaten 157-run partnership for the ninth wicket. Hridoy faced a total of 481 balls, hitting 27 fours and 10 sixes.

Hridoy made his Test debut in 2026

Hridoy made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in the only Test played in Harare in June 2026. He scored three runs from 16 balls in the first innings. He couldn't make a mark in the second innings, getting dismissed for just nine runs from 17 balls. Bangladesh were bowled out for 140 and 185, losing the match by an innings and 85 runs.

Hridoy in Test squad vs South Africa

Bangladesh are scheduled to play a two-Test series against South Africa in November later this year. Hridoy has made a case for himself for a Test recall, especially after Litton Das failed to make a single run in three innings on Australia tour. The first Test will be played in Johannesburg followed by Centurion.
