IND vs NZ 2nd Test Day 2: Star Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the second batter to reach 1000 runs in Test cricket in the year 2024. The left-handed batter accomplished the feat at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, on Day 2 of India's second Test match against Tom Latham's New Zealand. With 1305 runs from 14 Test matches at an average of 59.31, five hundreds, and four fifties, Joe Root tops the list. In England's first Test match against Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Root recorded his highest score of 262.

Jaiswal completes 1000 Test runs in 2024

Jaiswal has amassed 1007 runs at an average of 59.23 and a strike-rate of 75.88 in 10 Test matches so far in 2024. He hit a high score of 214 against the Three Lions at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot earlier this year. The southpaw had previously achieved a double hundred in the Vizag Test match against England. Needless to say, Jaiswal has had a tremendous season in Test cricket. Jaiswal has not regressed since making his debut against the West Indies last year, hitting 171 runs.

Jaiswal is yet to score big in the current series against the Kiwis, although he has gotten off to good starts but has failed to convert them into a big knock. The star player scored 13 and 35 in the first Test match at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium. India then fell behind 1-0 in the three-match series after losing the match by eight wickets. In the opening innings of the second Test, Jaiswal appeared to be in good form before being dismissed once more.

He hit four fours and scored 30 runs off 60 balls. Glenn Phillips dismissed him after Jaiswal found an outside edge in the slip cordon that fell directly into Daryl Mitchell's hands. It is anticipated that Jaiswal will be crucial to India's forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
