Mohammad Amir has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Representing Karachi Kings in the ongoing 2023 Pakistan Super League (PSL), the left-arm paceman has come up with a celebration that has not gone down well with the onlookers and even former cricketers. During Karachi's match against Lahore Qalandars on February 19 (Sunday), Amir pulled off the famous 'DX celebration' from the WWE after dismissing Shai Hope.
Amir chose that particular celebration despite former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi advising him not to perform the 'obscene' act. Afridi recently revealed that he scolded Amir for celebrating in a bizarre fashion but the latter clearly ignored the former's advice.
"Whenever a player doesn’t perform, or even if he does, I drop him a message for call him. Likewise, I messaged Amir yesterday. I talked to him respectfully, but I also scolded him. I told Amir, ‘what do you want?’ You have gained so much respect, you faced a blot on your reputation and from there, you made a return. You got a new life, in a way. What are you even trying to do?" Afridi told on Samaa TV.
"Ye koi tareeka hai? (Is this the way to play?) There are juniors around you, you are using bad words. There are fans who are disheartened to see that. Even we have used such words and, sometimes, the camera used to catch us. There are families, kids watching you on television. Aggression is fine, but keep it under control," he added.
Meanwhile, in the game against Lahore, the left-arm pacer sustained an injury and could only bowl two overs. Amir, who has bagged four wickets in as many matches this season so far, is likely to miss Karachi's next game.
