Lahore Qalanadars batsman Harry Brook played an amazing innings to register the second-fastest century in the history of Pakistan Super League (PSL) as he notched a brilliant innings of 49-ball 102 (not out) against Islamabad United, on February 19 (Saturday), in Lahore.
The English batter scored his century off just 48 balls to help his side in securing a convincing 66-run victory in Pakistan Super League.
Brook rescues
Batting first, Lahore Qalandars had a terrible start as they lost their first three wickets within three overs of the innings and with just 12 runs on scoreboard. For Islamabad United their pacer Faheem Ashraf had a terrific start as he scalped two quick wickets to put pressure on Lahore Qalandars. Ashraf eventually ended up picking up three wickets in total.
But then Brook came down to bat and along with opening batsman Fakhar Zaman (51 runs off 41 balls) he played a crucial partnership of 101 runs off just 63 deliveries. The solid partnership helped Lahore Qalandars side in averting the early danger. And it eventually helped to post a fightable total of 197 runs losing 6 wickets.
Brook’s innings was comprised of 10 boundaries and 5 sixes.
It is important to mention that the fastest century in the history of PSL was scored by Rilee Rossouw as he had scored his ton off just 43 balls back in 2020 while playing for Multan Sultans against Quetta Gladiators.
The run-chase
In reply, the Islamabad-based team tried to reach the target but they kept on losing wickets in quick succession. Their batter Liam Dawson emerged as the highest scorer for his side as he managed to score 31 runs off 26 balls.
Later, Danish Aziz contributed a bit by scoring 30 runs off 26 balls (not out) but eventually it turned out to be inconsequential as Islamabad United could only register a total of 131 runs losing 9 wickets.
For Lahore Qalandars, their bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Zaman Khan Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan picked up two wickets each. The remaining wicket was bagged by David Wiese.
With this win Lahore Qalandars (16 points) cemented their second spot in the league table as Islamabad United are positioned at sixth position with 8 points.
