Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to choose Bengaluru as the venue for Ranji Trophy 2022 knockout games. The Ranji Trophy 2022 season’s league stage was completed earlier this month followed by the pre-quarter final. The domestic red-ball tournament will resume after the completion of upcoming 10-team Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
“Ranji trophy knockout stage is likely to be played entirely in Bengaluru BCCI officer bearers have discussed this location internally but no mail has been sent to state units,” the source confirmed to Sports Tak.
Bengaluru became the frontrunner to host the knockout matches because of the weather conditions in June.
“While choosing Bengaluru, BCCI officials are considering the weather conditions there. Final Call will be taken soon enough and units will be informed about it,” the source added.
The eight teams that have made it into the quarter-finals are Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, Karnataka, Mumbai, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. The Saurabh Tiwary-led Jharkhand dominated Nagaland in the pre-quarter final as they created history by taking a 1,008-run lead.
Defending champions Saurashtra were knocked out of the tournament. The Jaydev Unadkat-led side could not advance despite winning two of their three games as Prithvi-led Mumbai had more points in Elite Group D.
On the other hand, BCCI is preparing for the upcoming season of Under25 CK Nayudu Trophy which will start on March 22. The venues of the tournament will be Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Surat, Rajkot, Jaipur, Delhi, Vijaywada, Pondicherry and Cuttack. Like Ranchi, the teams will be divided into elite groups and plate group.
