Prithvi Shaw scored a fine century for Maharashtra against Chandigarh

This is Shaw's firsty hundred for Maharashtra in Ranji Trophy

After being dismissed cheaply for eight runs in the first innings, Prithvi Shaw made a statement when he came out to bat on the second occasion in the match and scored a stunning century. The batter smacked the Chandigarh bowlers all around the park and helped Maharashtra in getting off to a flying start alongside opener Arshin Kulkarni.

They formed a strong opening stand of 73 runs before pacer Jagjit Singh got the wicket of Kulkarni for 31. However, his dismissal didn't stop Shaw who was hitting boundaries for fun and kept the scoreboard ticking. The problems only multiplied for the Chandigarh bowlers as Shaw started to get good support from Siddhesh Veer on the other end.

Shaw cracks fiery hundred

With Maharashtra already leading by 104 runs coming into the second innings, their fine batting display only saw the lead get bigger. Soon after, Shaw would reach his century after facing just 72 deliveries. He scored a total of 17 boundaries in order to reach the milestone and did so in style.

Maharashtra take massive lead

However, Shaw kept on scoring runs at a good pace even after reaching triple figures. He scored boundaries in almost every over and ended up amassing the 150-run mark with rather ease. Though the 25-year-old was clearly the aggressor in his stand with Siddhesh, the latter also provided h im with great support and soon reached the 50-run mark. Maharashtra have already taken a lead of over 300 runs and will be looking to pile on more misery for Chandigarh as the day progresses.

On the other hand, Shaw has a good chance of reaching his double-hundred and he is looking to be in great touch. If he does end up achieving the milestone, then it will undoubtedly be a major confidence booster for him and it may also help him perform well in Mahrashtra's upcoming games in the tournament. It remains to be seen how far will he manage to go in the innings.
