IND vs SA 1st T20I: India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided an update on vice-captain Shubman Gill and all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s availability for the first T20I of the series against South Africa. In the pre-match press conference, Suryakumar said that Gill and Pandya are looking fit.
"Both [Gill and Pandya] are looking healthy and fit," Suryakumar told the reporters at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
Gill to open, Samson to be flexible
Suryakumar had suffered a neck injury that ruled him out of second Test and the ODI series. He was named in the T20I squad but his participation was subject to fitness.
The captain confirmed that Gill will open alongside Abhishek Sharma while Sanju Samson can bat anywhere in the batting lineup.
“It was Shubman who started in the series against Sri Lanka after that we gave chances to Sanju up in the order. He is a flexible player, can bat anywhere. We don't plan to change a lot in our playing XI in the next 2 series. We won't be changing or trying too many things. We will continue with it,” Suryakumar said.
Suryakumar praises Pandya
Pandya who missed the T20I series against Australia is returning to action as well. Recently, he proved that he has not lost his form by scoring big in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025. He feels that Pandya’s experience is invaluable.
“Hardik Pandya opens up a lot of options and combinations. His experience is invaluable. He has done well in major tournaments. His presence will give a good balance to the side,” said the 35-year-old.
