Batting great Sunil Gavaskar was full of praise for Virat Kohli after the batting superstar notched his 84th century in international cricket on December 3 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. This was Kohli's second consecutive hundred in the ODI series against South Africa, having hammered a lightning 120-ball 135 in the series opener in Ranchi.

After Kohli reached his century in the second ODI, Gavaskar said that who needs a Superman when one has Virat Kohl. He also lauded the Delhi batter's sharp running between the wickets. The former India captain praised Kohli's approach, noting that he consistently tries to keep the scoreboard ticking.

"Who needs a Superman when you have Virat Kohli? In his career record, you will find how many singles he has taken. Singles are the lifeblood of batting in any format of the game. It makes the batter feel he is on the move, not stagnating, not being blocked by the bowlers. It is not just his runs, but he is always looking for the extra for his partner. Kohli, Gaikwad's centuries help India post 358/5

India ended up posting a commanding total of 358/5 in their stipulated 50 overs, fueled by twin centuries and a record-breaking partnership from Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Virat Kohli led the charge with 102 runs off 93 balls, hitting seven fours and two sixes, forging a staggering 195-run stand with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who registered his maiden ODI ton with an 83-ball 105. Towards the back end of the innings, captain KL Rahul provided a late flourish, slamming an unbeaten 66 off just 43 balls, ably supported by Ravindra Jadeja’s 24 not out off 27 deliveries.
