Amelia Kerr created the record for best bowling figures by a captain in ODIs.

Amelia's 7-fer broke the 44-year-old record for ODI best bowling figures by a White Ferns bowler.

New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr rewrote record books on March 8. While the men's team is all set to play the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final against India, the White Ferns skipper achieved a rare feat. She picked up a seven-wicket haul against Zimbabwe in the second ODI of the three-ODI series in Dunedin. She broke the record for best bowling figures in ODI cricket history by a captain.

Amelia bagged seven wickets for just 34 runs in 9.1 overs. In women's cricket, the previous record belonged to India's Mamatha Maben who took six wickets for 10 runs against Sri Lanka in 2004.

Amelia is also the seventh bowler to register a seven-wicket haul in women's ODI cricket. The top spot belongs to Pakistan's Sajida Shah who claimed seven wickets from eight overs against Japan in 2003. She is followed by England's Jo Chamberlain who took seven wickets for eight runs in nine overs against Denmark in 1991. West Indies' Anisa Mohammed took seven wickets for 14 runs against Pakistan in 2011.

Three Australians are next on the list, Alana King took seven wickets for 18 runs against South Africa in 2025, Ellyse Perry bagged seven wickets for 22 runs against England in 2019 whereas Shelley Nitschke had seven scalps for 24 runs against England in 2005.

44-year-old record broken

For New Zealand, the record for best bowling figures belonged to Jackie Lord. In 1982, Jackie took six wickets for 10 runs against India in Auckland. The record stood for 44 years.

Big win for New Zealand

Zimbabwe were bowled out for 102 in 29.1 overs. Their opener Kelis Ndhlovu, who scored a fifty in the previous game, was hit on the helmet. Tendai Makusha was named her concussion substitute. Wicketkeeper-batter Modester Mupachikwa top-scored for them with a 51-ball 32. Eight batters failed to score in double digits. Apart from Amelia, Molly Penfold claimed three wickets.

New Zealand chased down the target in just 16.2 overs. Isabella Gaze was dismissed early for 20 by Audrey Mazvishaya. Amelia opened the innings and missed her fifty. She departed for a 40-ball 45 to Christabel Chatonzawa. Maddy Green and Brook Halliday got the hosts over the line. New Zealand have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-ODI series.
