India have announced Mohammed Siraj as the replacement for Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa. Bumrah was left out of the first match between the two sides and after the news of his injury broke on Thursday, September 29, Siraj has quickly been drafted into the squad.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Mohd. Siraj as the replacement for the injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa. Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team,” the official announcement by the BCCI said on Friday, September 30.

Earlier, in a massive blow to Team India, it was reported by SportsTak that the pace spearhead will most likely miss the upcoming T20 World Cup owing to a serious back stress fracture injury. Sources privy to the development told Sports Tak that as of now no surgery is required but going by the scans conducted by the medical team, the star pacer will be out of action for atleast four-six months.

Mohammad Shami or Deepak Chahar were the tangible candidates, but with Siraj's inclusion, it seems the RCB pacer will make his way into the India squad for T20 World Cup in Bumrah's absence as the final call will be taken by the selection committee.

Bumrah didn't travel to Trivandrum for the first T20I match between India and South Africa which the former won by eight wickets on Wednesday (September 28).

Team India are set to play two more T20Is against South Africa, on October 2 in Guwahati and on 4 in Indore respectively.

India squad for South Africa T20Is: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Umesh Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Shahbaz Ahmed, Md. Siraj
