New Zealand registered a thumping nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20I to lock the three-match series 1-1 at the University Oval in Dunedin on Wednesday (April 5). New Zealand rode on Adam Milne's fantastic fifer and Tim Seifert's lightning knock to wreak havoc on Sri Lanka.

Milne became only the third New Zealander to claim a five-wicket haul in a T20 international after Tim Southee (5-18 vs. Pakistan) and Lockie Ferguson (5-21 vs West Indies), helping the Black Caps bowl out Sri Lanka in exactly 19 overs. Opener Tim Seifert then hit an unbeaten 79 from 43 balls as New Zealand reached 146-1 in 14.4 overs to win with 32 balls to spare, finishing off with consecutive sixes.

It wasn't just Milne's bowling that remained the highlight of the match, but also an incident which turned everyone's heads. During Sri Lanka's innings Milne's directed a lethal delivery towards Nissanka which ended up breaking the batter's bat into two pieces. The ball which skidded from a good length caught the splice of the bat and eventually broke the handle. Milne returned with a sensational spell of 5/26.

New Zealand summed up Islanders' innings for 141 and later rode on Seifert's unbeaten 79 to chase down the target in just 14.4 overs.

''Any time you get a five-for it's very nice and after the last game with the Super Over it's nice to come back and put in a good performance,'' Milne said.

"You always dream of taking five wickets for New Zealand. As I had three in the last over with a couple of tailenders in, I started feeling a little bit greedy," Milne later admitted.

"The way we were just able to keep taking wickets, that's the best way really to stall a run rate. I thought our bowling performance was outstanding," he further added.

New Zealand will next lock horns with Sri Lanka in the series decider on April 8.
