India’s 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been named vice-captain of Bihar for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. He will be 26-year-old Sakibul Gani's deputy in his second Ranji season.
The news came after Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) were missing a selector to pick the Ranji Trophy squad. Following the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) order, a selector joined the two-member panel on ad hoc basis.
Suryavanshi has been in good form of late. The youngster scored a blazing 78-ball century in the first Youth Test against Australia in Brisbane. He could not follow it up with another big score. He was lethal in the One-Day series as well on Australian soil.
Earlier, he had dominated English bowlers. He scored the fastest century in Youth ODI history. He scored 143 runs from just 78 balls, featuring 13 fours and 10 sixes.
Earlier this year, he had impressed the cricket fraternity with the fastest century by an Indian in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The young Rajasthan Royals (RR) has been often backed by many to be fast-tracked to the senior team like the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Why Suryavanshi will not play entire Ranji season?
Suryavanshi may not feature in the entire Ranji Trophy season as he will be playing in the Under-19 World Cup 2026.
Suryavanshi’s first-class record
So far, Suryavanshi is yet to show his mettle in first-class cricket. From five games, he has managed to score 100 runs at an average of 10. His best score in first-class cricket is 41.
Suryavanshi’s first game as Bihar’s vice-captain
Suryavanshi will be seen in Ranji action when Bihar go up against Arunachal Pradesh in their home clash, starting October 15. Bihar are currently not part of Ranji Trophy Elite group. They are in Plate group.
