A 21-year-old engineering student has been taken into custody after sending a threatening message to Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian national cricket team. The threat was issued following Gambhir's social media posts expressing his condolences to the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. In his online message, Gambhir not only conveyed his sympathy but also issued a stern warning to those responsible for the attack
"Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike. #Pahalgam," Gambhir wrote.
Shortly after Gautam Gambhir shared his message on social media, he received a threatening email. Reports indicate that these death threats were purportedly sent by 'ISIS Kashmir'. The messages contained the phrase 'IKillU', indicating a direct and explicit threat against his life.
In response to these threats Gambhir acted promptly and contacted the Delhi Police. He filed a formal request on Friday, April 25, seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the threatening messages he had received.
"We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is being investigated," DCP (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said in a statement.

Following Gautam Gambhir's complaint, the Delhi Police moved swiftly and identified the individual responsible for the threatening messages as 21-year-old Jigneshsinh Parmar. According to ANI, Parmar is a resident of Gujarat. He was apprehended by the Central District Police team and subjected to a thorough interrogation.
The Delhi Police revealed that Parmar is an engineering student, and his family has claimed that he suffers from mental health issues. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway. Gambhir is presently taking some time away from cricket while the IPL season is in progress. He is scheduled to return to action in May when the Indian national team departs for England to participate in the highly anticipated five-match Test series. Gambhir's tenure as head coach in Test matches has been challenging, and he will be hoping for improved results from the team in the upcoming series. India suffered embarrassing losses against New Zealand and Australia in the previous season and failed to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the first time. The series against England will mark the beginning of India's campaign in the new WTC cycle, and the team is eager to start with a positive outcome.
