Indonesia pacer Gede Priandana scripted T20I history in Bali as he became the first to take five wickets in an over. Priandana bowled just one over and claimed five wickets to help Indonesia beat Cambodia by 60 runs on December 23. From 106/5 in the run chase of 168, Cambodia were bowled out for 107 in 16 overs.
When Indonesia skipper Danilson Hawoe introduced Priandana into the attack, Cambodia needed 61 runs in the last six overs. His firsti victim was Shah Abrar Hussain. The opener scored 37 runs from 48 balls. Then, he dismissed new batter Nirmaljit Singh for a golden duck.
He completed his hat-trick by knocking over Chanthoeun Rathanak. After a single off the fourth ball, Priandana claimed wickets of tailenders Mongdara Sok and Pel Vannak to script history. Cambodia lost the match despite skipper Luqman Butt’s 30-ball 48.
This was all-rounder Priandana's 63rd T20I. Before the record fifer, his best bowling figures are 4/8 against Myanmar which came last month in a rain-curtailed 10 overs per side affair.
Who did it against Priandana in T20s?
While Priandana is the first to achieve the feat in T20Is, there are two bowlers who have taken five wickets in an over in domestic T20s. Bangladesh's Al-Amin Hossain did it for UCB-BCB XI against Abahani Limited in Victory Day T20 Cup in 2013-14 season. Former India pacer Abhimanyu Mithun did it in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 semifinal for Karnataka against Haryana.
Priandana’s T20I numbers
The Indonesian made his T20I debut against Japan in October 2022. From 63 T20Is, he has 1,040 runs at an average of 19.62 and strike rate of 104.94. He has five T20I fifties. With the ball, he has 24 wickets from 27 innings at 17 apiece.
Kesuma hits 3rd T20I ton
Earlier, Cambodia skipper Butt won the toss and opted to bowl first. Wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma's third T20I ton helped Indonesia post 167/5. Opener Kesuma hit six sixes and eight fours in his unbeaten 68-ball 110. The next high score for an Indonesia batter was by an unbeaten 11-ball 13 by captain Hawoe. Kesuma is the only Indonesia batter with a T20I century to his name. No other batter has even crossed 80.
