9 wickets in 3 games! Yuzvendra Chahal wreaks havoc in England, dismisses Michael Vaughan's son to bowl out Somerset for 185

India's out-of-favor leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has continued his good form in the ongoing England's Domestic One-Day Cup 2026. On August 9, the Northamptonshire leggie teamed up with Rob Keogh to bowl out Somerset for 185. Chahal picked up three wickets whereas Keogh bagged four to restrict Somerset under 200. Home side Northamtponshire chased down the target with seven wickets in hand and 20 overs to spare as Luke Procter and skipper Nathan McSweeney scored fifties.

Chahal, Keogh spin a web

Somerset got off to a good start with openers sharing a 53-run partnership. Dominic Leech broke the partnership with Johnny Connell's wicket. Then, Procter dismissed Tom Lammonby in the 17th over. The opener missed his half-century, departing for a 51-ball 40. Procter also got the wicket of Theo Lamey. Chahal was introduced in the 25th over of the innings. Keogh, in his second over, got skipper Goldsworthy out lbw. Former England captain Michael Vaughan's son, Archie and Joshua Thomas were looking to build a partnership. In the 33rd over, Chahal got Archie out stumped. Somerset lost half the side for 126.

Keogh continued to strike. He got Kian Roberts, Joshua Thomas and Joshua Shaw out in consecutive overs. Then, Chahal got Jack Leach and Jake Ball out in consecutive overs to bowl out Somerset for 185. In his quota of 10 overs, he bowled one maiden and claimed three wickets. Keogh conceded 35 runs from 10 overs as well.

Early wickets but ease run chase for hosts

In the run chase, Northamptonshire lost Gus Miller and Lewis McManus in the first two overs for ducks. Procter and skipper McSweeney did damage control and then accelerated. In the 19th over, Procter got to his half-century from 58 balls. Skipper Leach and Vaughan took a beating as McSweeney got to his fifty from 50 balls. The partnership was eventually broken by Vaughan with the wicket of Procter. He hit 11 fours and a six in his 75-ball 85. It turned out to be a consolation wicket. George Bartlett hit Vaughan for a couple of sixes. In the 30th over, McSweeney hit Vaughan for a six and a four to finish the run chase. He remained unbeaten for 69 off 76 deliveries.

Chahal’s stellar run in the tournament

Chahal is the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the competition. The 36-year-old has 15 wickets from seven games at 21 apiece. His economy rate of 4.56 is the best among top five wicket-takers. The top spot belongs to Yorkshire's Ben Cliff (18 wickets), followed by Glamorgan's Dan Douthwaite (17 wickets). Alongside Chahal, Middlesex's Naavya Sharma and Worcestershire's Fateh Singh have 15 wickets each as well.
