MCA announces Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai squad.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced the 16-member squad for the upcoming edition of the ZR Irani Cup 2024 where they will be facing Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Rest of India side at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow from 1st – 5th October 2024. Ajinkya Rahane, who captained Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy, will skipper the team in the Irani Cup match, which also includes Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer.

"The Senior Selection Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association consisting of Mr. Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Mr. Ravi Thaker, Mr. Jeetendra Thackeray, Mr. Kiran Powar and Mr. Vikrant Yeligeti has selected following players to represent Mumbai in Z.R. Irani Cup 2024-2025 match against Rest of India to be played from 1st - 5th October 2024," MCA said in a statement.

After missing out on the teams for the two-match series against Bangladesh, Shreyas is vying for a spot in the Indian Test team. Earlier in the year, during the first two Tests of the five-match series against England, he last appeared for India in Test cricket.

Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube's inclusion depends on IND vs BAN matches

Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube, assuming they are freed from their Indian commitments, will both join the club, the MCA has informed. For the second Test, Sarfaraz has been kept in the team, while Dube will probably play in the Twenty20 International series against the Bangla Tigers, which begins on October 6. If both are freed from their Indian responsibilities, they will both join the Mumbai squad.

"Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube will join the team if released from India duties," MCA wrote further.

Notably, the team for the Rest of India match against Irani Cup has also been announced by the BCCI. The team will be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, with Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal selected in light of their absence from the second Test match against Bangladesh. The second match, which is scheduled to take place in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1, coincides with the Irani Cup match's opening day.

Mumbai Squad: Ajinkya Rahane (C), Prithvi Shaw, Ayush Mhatre, Musheer Khan, Shreyas Iyer, Siddhessh Lad, Suryansh Shedge, Hardik Tamore (WK), Sidhaant Addhatrao, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Himanshu Singh, Shardul Thakur, Mohit Avasthi, Mohd. Juned Khan, Royston Dias
