Yesha Sagar, the representative of the Chittagong Kings, left Bangladesh midway through the tournament after the renowned social media influencer failed to comply with the Kings' notice, sparking a new controversy in the ongoing edition of the Bangladesh Premier League. Notably, Yesha, a Canadian model and fashion influencer, was hired by the Kings for the duration of the BPL, participating in their pre-, post-, and sponsorship activities. Yesha was to Chittagong Kings what Mr Nags is to RCB.
Chittagong Kings' notice to Yesha Sagar
But in February, things took a shocking turn when she received a notice from the Kings accusing her of not finishing her sponsored shots and not showing up for an official sponsorship dinner.
"According to Clause 9 of the contract, you (Yesha) have failed to perform your duties, and despite being officially invited, you failed to attend the sponsor dinner. You have neglected to complete the necessary sponsor shoots and promotional shout-outs. Your failure to comply has caused financial and reputational damage to the franchise (Chittagong Kings), " Chittagong Kings' owner Samir Kader Chowdhury stated.
Yesha was upset by the notice and chose to leave Bangladesh instead of responding. Recent reports state that she is hosting the Legends 90 League after flying to India.
This is not the first controversy that shook the BPL. A few days ago, Durbar Rajshahi's owners chose not to pay their foreign players, which forced them to withdraw from a match against Rangpur Riders. Notably, because they were protesting the non-payment, no international players took the field during the game. Therefore, in violation of BPL regulations, all 11 Bangladeshi players played against the Riders. A team must play at least two international stars under the league's regulations.
Tom Moffat, the chief executive of the World Cricketers Association, cautioned the Bangladesh Cricket Board about the non-payment problems in the current Bangladesh Premier League, stating that he anticipates the world's top players will not be able to participate in the competition if this trend persists. Durbar Rajshahi's non-payment problems severely damaged the current BPL season, forcing the government to establish a fact-finding committee for BPL payments.
