Bangladesh's in-form pacer Nahid Rana wreaked havoc in the second of the three-ODI series against New Zealand. Rana became the third Bangladesh pacer to register a five-wicket haul in ODIs against the BlackCaps. His stunning spell helped Bangladesh bowl out for 198 despite opener Nick Kelly's 83-run knock at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, on April 20.
In 2004, Aftab Ahmed became the first Bangladesh bowler to take a fifer against New Zealand. In Mirpur, he took five wickets for 31 runs in a losing cause. Nearly a decade later, Rubel Hossain claimed a six-fer in just 5.5 overs as Bangladesh bowled out New Zealand for 162.
Rana delivers captain’s calls straightaway
Rana was introduced in the eighth over. He started off by dismissing Henry Nicholls lbw. He followed it up with a wicket-maiden. He dismissed Will Young for a single-digit score. In his first spell of five overs, he conceded just 10 runs.

He was brought back into the attack after the drinks break. Kelly and Muhammad Abbas were trying to steady the ship. Rana broke the fourth-wicket partnership with Abbas' wicket. After a three-over spell, he returned to bowl the 43rd over. Again, he provided the breakthrough straightaway dismissing Dean Foxcroft. In the 46th over, he completed his fifer with Jayden Lennox's wicket. This was Rana's second fifer in ODIs. His previous fifer came against Pakistan last month.
Apart from Rana, left-arm Shoriful Islam was economical as well, claiming two wickets for 32 runs in 10 overs. Taskin Ahmed, Soumya Sarkar and leg-spinner Rishad Hossain bagged one wicket each.
Rana’s form
In the previous game, Rana struggled to make a shift from T20s to ODIs. He went for 65 runs in his quota of 10 overs. His only wicket was Foxcroft in the slog overs.
Before flying back to Bangladesh, Rana was Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam's trump card in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL). From four games, he claimed seven wickets at an average of 10.85. He conceded runs at an economy rate of 5.42. His raw pace created problems for several batters in the PSL.
