Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have sought the Indian government's clearance on the Asia Cup 2025 and are waiting for their final say. The tournament faces a significant hurdle due to uncertainty surrounding India's participation in matches against Pakistan. This uncertainty arises from the prevailing tense political relations between the two nations following the Pahalgam terror attack. As the designated hosts for the tournament, the BCCI is facing pressure to make a definitive announcement soon. However, the ultimate decision regarding India's participation now rests on the approval of the Government of India.

UAE to host Asia Cup 2025?
According to the proposed schedule, the Asia Cup is scheduled to begin on September 5, with India’s clash against Pakistan on September 7.
But in a massive development, Sports Tak has learnt that BCCI has kept UAE as as part of their contingent plan to host the Asia Cup 2025 if things doesn't work as planned.
“The proposal for the Asia Cup to be played in the UAE was drafted even before the Pahalgam attack. The situation has changed since then, so whatever the government says, we will abide by it,” a top source in the know of developments told Sports Tak. .
Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah are the three venues which have been picked for the Asia Cup.
Meanwhile, BCCI has also expressed its reservations regarding the designated location for the next Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting. This meeting is currently scheduled to take place on July 24 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. However, the BCCI has formally communicated its request for a modification in the meeting's venue. Furthermore, it has been indicated that the BCCI might consider withdrawing its participation from the ACC meeting altogether if the existing venue in Dhaka is not changed to an alternative location.
“Under the prevailing circumstances and the political upheaval in Bangladesh, it wasn’t appropriate to travel to the country. We have officially informed the ACC to shift the venue of the next meeting,” the source added.
This year's Asia Cup is scheduled to be played in the T20 format, strategically positioning it as a preparatory tournament for the upcoming T20 World Cup. India is slated to host the global T20 event early next year, making the Asia Cup a crucial platform for teams to fine-tune their strategies and squads.
Notably, If the Asia Cup doesn’t get the go ahead from the government, the BCCI also have the option of staging a multi-nation tournament (triangular series) in that window. In August, India was scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for a three-match ODI and T20I series before it was postponed.
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has proposed same number of matches in the same format, which allows former India captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from Tests and T20Is, to return to action in India colours.
