New Delhi | The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) World Test Championship (WTC) table has been shaken upside-down as Australia go joint top of the standings after their 275-run win over England in the second Ashes Test. The win in Adelaide Test has seen the Aussies join Sri Lanka at the top of the pile with a 100 per cent record. The Aussies now lead the Ashes by 2-0 and will try to extend their lead at the top.

The WTC standings are determined by the percentage of points secured by a team. As things stand Pat Cummin’s team has won both their matches in the current cycle of 2021-23. Currently, the team from Down Under has 24 points from two games. Sri Lanka’s 2-0 series win against West Indies also sees them at the top with 100 per cent points. Sri Lanka also have 24 points to their name in the current cycle.

As things stand, the table doesn’t make good reading for India as they currently sit fourth in the table with 58.33 per cent points. Interestingly, India have collected the most aggregate points with 42 but with only three wins in six, which sees Virat Kohli’s army pepped to the top spot. Alongside three victories, Team India has two draws and a loss against their name.

Pakistan sit third in the rankings with a win percentage of 75 while their aggregate points tally sees them take 36 points from four games. Still, in the early days, current holders New Zealand are in an unwanted position as they sit sixth, they have a win percentage of 16 from their solitary draw. The Kanpur Test draw against India saw them pick up four points to put on the board.

England though are the most miserably hit side, from their six games in the current cycle they have lost four while winning just one. Only Bangladesh (0.00) have a worse record than England with a win per cent of 8.33. Their aggregate points return sees them take a return of six points in six games.

The ongoing Ashes between Australia and England will add spice to the table while India and South Africa are also poised to make their moves in the WTC. South Africa are yet to play in the current cycle as they last played in the longer format in June. New Zealand are also scheduled to play Bangladesh in January as they try to get in a better position in the table.
