Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam will have to wait more as the Lahore High Court has postponed the hearing of the sexual harassment case filed against him. The hearing which was scheduled to take place on December 12 will now be heard on December 16. Babar Azam's legal team led by Barrister Haris Azmat was not present on December 12 hearing, and the court granted a request for adjournment from Babar's junior lawyer.
The delay in the decision has been making a huge impact on Babar Azam's personal life. The harassment case has been filed by a woman claiming to be a close acquaintance of Babar.
What are the allegations against Babar Azam?
Hamiza Mukhtar filed a case against Pakistan's star batter claiming that Babar Azam sexually exploited her by making a fake promise to marry. She also alleged that she was forced to undergo an abortion as the cricketer ditched her after achieving fame in cricket. She also presented medical documents to support her claims.
Mukhtar who reported that the police refused to file an FIR after she reported incidents of "blackmail and fornication" filed the case in 2021. These claims against Pakistan one of the most followed cricketers gained a lot of public attention in Pakistan.
Temporary relief to Babar Azam
During the last hearing, the court dismissed the case filed by Hamiza against Babar Azam as police submitted their investigation report to the court claiming that neither Mukhtar nor her family members were subjected to blackmail or harassment by the police at the behest of Azam's family. After reviewing the report, the court dismissed the petition which effectively cleared Azam of the allegations. However, the court has yet to give the final verdict.
Amid all this, Babar is currently featuring in T20Is against South Africa as Pakistan are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series followed by the same ODIs and both teams will face each other in two Test matches.
