The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian women's cricket team squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India's ODI squad for New Zealand series announced

Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the side. Recently, Harmanpreet's India got eliminated from Women's T20 World Cup 2024 as they failed to get past the group stage. The squad includes four uncapped players, but notable omissions include Richa Ghosh, Pooja Vastrakar and Asha Sobhana.

The BCCI cited Richa Ghosh's 12th-grade board exams and a planned rest for Pooja Vastrakar as the reasons for their exclusion. Both players were part of the Indian team that participated in the recent ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, where India failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

"Richa Ghosh was unavailable for selection due to her 12th standard board exams. Asha Sobhana is currently nursing an injury and was unavailable for selection. Pooja Vastrakar has been rested for the series," the BCCI statement said.

India are gearing up for a three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting on October 24 in Ahmedabad. The squad, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, includes four uncapped players: Tejal Hasabnis, Saima Thakor, Priya Mishra, and Sayali Satgare. Additionally, wicketkeeper Uma Chetry and pace all-rounder Arundhati Reddy are in contention for their maiden ODI caps.

India will be eager to redeem themselves after a disappointing performance in the recent T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated early. The team, especially captain Harmanpreet Kaur, will be under pressure to deliver strong performances against New Zealand. The senior players will aim to overcome the disappointment of the T20 World Cup and dominate the ODI series.
