The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially declined a request from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to include three additional T20 International matches in India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The proposal, made by SLC earlier this year, was intended as a charity initiative to raise relief funds in the wake of the severe destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah. Sri Lankan cricket officials hoped that hosting the Indian team for a short T20I leg would draw massive crowds and secure vital revenue for recovery efforts.

The rejection came despite a seemingly viable gap in the schedule, as a nearly two-week window exists between the end of the bilateral Test series and India's subsequent international commitments. This availability prompted extensive discussions across various administrative levels before a final decision was reached.
Ultimately, scheduling conflicts proved insurmountable. As reported by Sportstar, the BCCI pointed to a congested international calendar and the critical need for player workload management as the decisive factors for turning down the request. While the BCCI conveyed its inability to accommodate the extra matches this time around, sources indicate that the Indian board remains open to supporting similar fundraising initiatives in the future, provided a more flexible gap opens up in their hectic schedule.
While this specific request was turned down, the BCCI has kept the door open for potential charity collaborations down the line, provided a viable gap appears in what has become an increasingly relentless cricket calendar.
For now, the tour will move forward precisely as originally scheduled, featuring only the two-match Test series starting on August 15. Although adding a T20I leg would have injected extra excitement for the fans and delivered crucial financial support for Sri Lanka Cricket's relief fund, both governing bodies have ultimately accepted the logistical constraints dictated by a packed international agenda.

The action is slated to begin at the iconic Galle International Stadium, which is expected to host the opening Test match from August 15 to 19. While the official venue for the second and final Test has yet to be formally confirmed, cricket fans can likely expect the match to kick off on August 23 at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Ground in Colombo.
