Ben Stokes wants to coach England in future, reveals 'I'm doing my Level 3 coaching now'

England Cricket Board (ECB) have recently revamped their Test leadership. With Ben Stokes retired and head coach Brendon McCullum stepping down, England will head to Pakistan Test series at home with calmer presence in the dressing room. Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming has succeeded McCullum whereas the selectors have gone back to Joe Root as Test captain instead of elevating vice-captain Harry Brook to the role in all three formats. While Stokes has retired, playing domestic cricket and looking forward to franchise T20s, he wants to make a comeback in the England dressing room. In a recent interview with former teammate Jos Buttler on For the Love of Cricket podcast, he revealed that he intends to return as a coach and has already begun the preparations.

"I'm doing my level three coaching now while I'm still playing, because I want, when the day comes that I'm not playing any more, I'd love to be able to have all that stuff signed off and done," said Stokes.

"I know what I want to do in terms of staying within the game, which is to be a coach. And would I love to be coach of England one day? Absolutely.

"I just really like the idea of being, again, like, in some form of leadership away from playing."

How Stokes returned to domestic cricket?

Stokes has jumped back to domestic cricket after retirement. He has been representing Durham in the ongoing One-Day domestic tournament. From four innings, he has accumulated 193 runs. He scored an unbeaten century in a successful run chase on comeback, followed by an unbeaten fiery half-century. But, then he bagged a golden duck and was dismissed cheaply by Yorkshire's Indian recruit, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. With ball in hand, he has a couple of wickets in the ongoing competition.

Durham will have Stokes’ services for the entirety of the One-Day Cup. Also, he will play in their County Championship matches as well. 

Stokes set for BBL return?

Meanwhile, Code Sports’ report suggests that Stokes may make his Big Bash League (BBL) comeback in the upcoming season. He may end up becoming the most expensive signing in the league’s history as well. Currently, Sydney Sixers are the frontrunners with Hobart Hurricanes looking to rope him in as well. The all-rounder will not just have teams to choose from but franchise cricket leagues to choose from as well. He can return to the play the BBL after more than a decade or make his debut in ILT20 or the SA20.
