Big blow to India, star player ruled out for minimum three months after undergoing successful foot surgery

Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur will be out of competitive cricket for at least three months after undergoing surgery on his foot in London.

India all-rounder Shardul Thakur went under successful foot surgery in London on June 12. Thakur is expected to be out of cricketing action for at least three months. He is expected to undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru and make his comeback in the upcoming domestic season.
 

Thakur posted a photo of himself from the hospital after the surgery with captain: "Operated successfuly. Now June 2024 vs May 2019.”
 

The other photo he posted was from May 2019 when he went under the knife on the same foot.

The 32-year-old has been given a Grace C annual contract by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) meaning that the board footed the bill for his treatment.
 

Thakur’s role in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy triumph

The injury has been bugging Thakur for a while. He struggled with it with during the South Africa tour in 2024. He returned to play Ranji Trophy 2023-24 for Mumbai and helped them win their 42nd title. He had requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to give longer breaks between matches to prevent injuries that players suffer due to lack of recovery.

Thakur’s last match before surgery

Thakur made his last appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In the must-win clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowled conceded 61 runs from his four overs and took wickets of Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell.

Thakur’s absence from international stage

Thakur has not made an appearance on the international stage in 2024. He played his last Test against South Africa in the last week of December. In the ODIs, he played against Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023. In the shortest format, he has not played a T20I since February 2022.
