The United States cricket team created history after becoming the second team to qualify for the Super 8 after Ireland in their inaugural season of the T20 World Cup 2024. Monank Patel-led side are second in the points table tally in the group after winning two matches of the marquee event. The USA sealed their berth in the playoffs after their last clash against Ireland washed out due to heavy rain in Florida.
How and when USA will play in India?
With the Super-8 qualification in the T20 World Cup 2024, The USA cricket team have already sealed their berth in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
USA won their opener clash against Canada and in their second match, the T20 World Cup debutant team registered their biggest win by beating the runners-up Pakistan by five runs.
Pakistan's performance in World Cup 2024
This is the first time in the history of Pakistan cricket that the team was knocked out of the tournament before the group-stage match. Pakistan were the 2022 finalist and they won their last T20 World Cup in 2009 under the captaincy of Younis Khan.
Pakistan's hope of qualifying for the Super 8 has been ended after the washed-out game between the USA and Scotland because the team were on third with five points. On the other hand, Babar Azam-led side just won a single game out of three and are currently in third with two points. To qualify for the group stage, Pakistan were dependent on the result of this match and after that, they will also have to defeat Ireland in their upcoming clash.
USA will now face South Africa for their first match of the Super 8 which will take place on June 19 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. After that the side will face South Africa on June 22 at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
