Lee feels Bumrah's best is yet to come.

Legendary Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has hailed Jasprit Bumrah as someone who will be considered a great in any era. Bumrah won the ‘Player of the tournament’ award for taking 15 wickets in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at an economy rate of just over four runs per over.

Lee was asked whether Bumrah has attained his peak or his best is yet to come in an exclusive interaction with Sports Tak. He compared Bumrah to Brad Pitt’s character in ‘The Curious case of Benjamin Button’ where he ages in reverse.

“The best is yet to come. He's like Benjamin Button getting age,” Lee said.

Lee hails Bumrah as modern-day great across formats

Lee ranks Bumrah as a modern day great for dominating in all formats of the game. He said that his yorker is almost unplayable.

“Definitely in any era mate because you have to go on the person's style, you have to go on what they bring to the table,” he said.

“Someone like a Jasprit Bumrah can shape the new ball. He's got good pace, he's still quick and he can bow that line length in Test match cricket. But then you throw in the white ball, he can open the bowling but then if you're trying to close out in death overs, you got guys chasing 12-13 an over at the end in T20 cricket and he bowls a stunning yorker. It's almost impossible to play him. So, he is world class in any era. I've really enjoyed watching his career unfold. I've had the pleasure to work and commentate and broadcast on a lot of his overs.”

Lee reserves high praise for Rohit

Lee lauded Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for using Bumrah’s over judiciously in T20 World Cup 2024.

“I think Sharma is a terrific captain. I think he knows his players very well and understands what he's trying to achieve from all of his teammates but the greatest thing with with a guy like a Jasprit Bumrah is that he can bowl two up front he can bowl one through the middle and then he can bowl one to death,” the 47-year-old said.

Lee turning back the clock

Lee is currently playing in World Championship of Legends 2024. Australia have already qualified for the semifinals with one game left in the league stage. He has taken seven wickets from four matches including three for 28 against England.
