An unnamed player of Canada's T20 World Cup 22026 squad was given additional security during the ICC tournament. The player, whose name is not disclosed, went to the concerned authorities after landing in Sri Lanka, who were co-hosting the tournament feeling unsafe.

New angle emerges in Cricket Canada controversy

As per a report by the Toronto Sun, since coming back to home after staying back for a while and has declined to give any interviews. The unrest in Cricket Canada was created after Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) released a documentary alleging match-fixing during Canada's clash against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026.

The controversy centres around Canada skipper Dilpreet Bajwa, whose appointment has come under the scanner claiming that he was appointed as captain of the side just before the departure for the T20 WC replacing Nicholas Kirton.

According to the documentary, Cricket Canada president Arvinder Khosa played a role in Bajwa's appointment. However, Khosa had denied the accusations saying he was not in Cricket Canada at that time and had no say in the decision making.

"I cannot believe that the documentary involved me in Bajwa’s promotion. I was not even in Cricket Canada at the time and had no say in the matter," said Khosa to the Toronto Sun.

 

 

On the other hand, Bajwa is being questioned by the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit after the game against New Zealand in Chennai which forced him to miss a team meeting.

Bishnoi gang's angle emerges

A source named Noah said. "So they straight up said this wording to him, that ‘You must take care of these guys. These guys should not get dropped from the team. If they do, you are in trouble.’ Obviously that was very scary for him,"

Noah further revealed how the Bishnoi gang used to threat individuals to back certain players in the team.

“We know where you live You won’t be able to run away from the Bishnoi Group,” Noah described the threatening messages from the group.    

 

 

The report further claims that Bishnoi gang's main aspiration was to make Bajwa the captain of the side and ensure that certain players were not dropped. The circumstance instilled fear in everyone's mind, with some asking for police protection and others stepping down from their respective positions.
