First New Zealand batter 600 sixes: At Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, former New Zealand opener Colin Munro scripted history in the Major League (MLC) 2026 clash. The Los Angeles Knight Riders hit four sixes in the run chase against Texas Super Kings to become first Kiwi batter to hit 600 sixes in T20s (including T20Is, domestic T20s and franchise T20 cricket).

Munro became the sixth overall and second non-West Indies cricketer after Jos Buttler to achieve the feat in the history of T20 cricket. Munro had 582 sixes to his name before the MLC 2026. In his debut MLC season, he has hit 19 sixes already. Now, he has 601 sixes in his T20 career which started in December 2010.

Batters with most sixes in T20 history

Earlier this year, England's Jos Buttler became the first non-West Indies batter to complete 600 sixes. He has hit 630 sixes from 516 games already. The top spot belongs to Chris Gayle with 1,056 sixes, Kieron Pollard (993 sixes), Andre Russell (789 sixes), and Nicholas Pooran (751 sixes).

Munro far ahead of other Kiwi batters

Munro had recently become the first Kiwi batter to score 12,000 T20 runs. The closest to the feat is Martin Guptill with 9,997 runs.

Players closing in on rare feat of 600 sixes in T20 cricket are Alex Hales (595 sixes) and Glenn Maxwell (576 sixes).

Munro scores fifty, Knight Riders cement top 2 spot

In the run chase of 172, Munro used the powerplay overs while Andre Fletcher played himself in. In the sixth over, the veteran opener reached his half-century from 26 balls while Fletcher was batting on nine runs from 13 balls. His catch was dropped off the next delivery. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein got the wicket of Munro. He got bowled for a 36-ball 62 featuring six fours and four sixes. He shared an 87-run opening partnership with Fletcher.

Knight Riders lost four wickets but Matthew Tromp's unbeaten 28-ball 58 helped Knight Riders win by six wickets with five balls to spare.

Who will Knight Riders face next?

Knight Riders will go up against San Francisco Unicorns in the Qualifier 1 clash. If the Jason Holder-led side wins, they will play the final on July 18. If Holder-led side to Unicorns, they will face the winner of Eliminator clash between Washington Freedom and MI New York.
