Maharashtra's Ramakrishna Ghosh entered his name in Vijay Hazare Trophy record books with a seven-wicket haul against Himanchal Pradesh. Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Maharashtra lost the match by seven runs but Ghosh registered the best bowling figures for them in the tournament's history.
Pacer Ghosh became the first bowler from Maharashtra to take a seven-wicket haul in Vijay Hazare Trophy. The previous best bowling figures for Maharashtra in the tournament belonged to Domnic Muthuswami who took six wickets for 25 runs in 8.2 overs against Mumbai in 2014. Maharashtra won that game by six wickets.

Overall, there are 10 bowlers who have taken a seven-fer in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Two bowlers have taken eight wickets in a match as well. The top spot belongs to former Jharkhand left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem who took eight wickets for 10 runs against Rajasthan in 2018.
Ghosh strikes thrice with new ball
On December 29, Maharashtra skipper Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first. Ghosh took just five deliveries to take his wicket. Wicketkeeper-batter Innesh Mahajan was trapped in front of the stumps for a single-digit score. In his second over, he dismissed the opener, Ankil Kalsi. He took a wicket in his third over, sending Ekant Sen back to the pavilion.
Mann scores century, Ghosh completes seven-fer
Pradeep Dadhe got the wicket of Himachal Pradesh skipper Mridul Surroch. He got out caught behind. In the middle overs, Pukraj Mann played the anchor role for Himachal Pradesh. Amanpreet Singh and Akash Vasisht got starts but lost their wickets to Satyajeet Bachhav and Rajvardhan Hangargekar respectively.
Ghosh returned as the slog overs approached. He broke the seventh wicket partnership with Nitin Sharma's wicket. Mann went on to score his century. In the 48th over, Ghosh ended Mann's stay at the crease. He scored 110 runs from 11 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. In the final over, Ghosh got the wickets of Vaibhav Arora and Rohit Kumar to bowl out Himachal Pradesh for 271 with two balls left in the innings. From his 9.4 overs, he conceded 42 runs and claimed seven wickets.
Bawne’s 97, Ghosh’s 7-fer in vain
In the run chase, Maharashtra got off to a slow start. Arshin Kulkarni and Siddhesh Veer departed as the pressure mounted on them. Skipper Gaikwad after a good start. Ghosh could not do much with the bat and departed for a single-digit score. Ankit Bawne anchored the innings for Maharashtra. Nikhil Naik and Prithvi Shaw contributed with cameos but Maharashtra kept on losing wickets. In the 48th over, Bawne lost his wicket for a 120-ball 97. The lower order could not take Maharashtra over the line as they managed to post 264/9, losing the match by seven runs.
Ghosh waiting for his IPL debut
Ghosh was picked by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his base price of Rs 30 lakh in the mega auction. He did not get to make his debut in the previous season.
