Australia star speedster Mitchell Starc played an important role in Delhi Capitals' Super Over thrilling win against Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Starc was also awarded Player of the Match for his heroics in the Super Over.
Starc was sent to bowl the Super Over, where RR managed to score 11/2, losing Riyan Parag (4) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (0). In response, DC chased down the 12-run Super Over target with ease, reaching 13/0 in four deliveries vs Sandeep Sharma.
Starc's performance in IPL is always under the scanner by netizens because of his price tag. Starc was purchased by DC for ₹11.75 Crores, from a base price of ₹2 Crores, and was also DC’s second-most expensive player in the mega auction. Earlier, he was the most expensive buy in IPL 2024 by KKR.
Even former South African pacer Dale Steyn slammed the critics. Known to be one of the most lethal bowlers in cricket history, Steyn took to X, and wrote, “That’s why you pay him the big bucks”, in reference to Starc’s price tag.
After winning Player of the Match, Starc revealed that he backed himself to execute his plans.
"Just backed my execution, running in with a clear plan. Sometimes it comes off, a bit of luck goes a long way. It was a fantastic game, happy to get on the right side. I’ve played long enough for everyone to know what I’d do, but if I execute, then I know I’ll get by. A bit of luck goes a long way" said Mitchell Starc in post match presentation.
DC are currently number one in the IPL 2025 points table with five wins in their six outings of the tournament. The franchise will now face the Gujarat Titans on April 19 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
