Dhruv Jurel and Abhimanyu Easwaran speak during an India Men's Test Squad training session at The Gabba on December 13, 2024 in Brisbane, Australia.

Story Highlights:

Dhruv Jurel picked a niggle on eve of the Duleep Trophy 2025 quarterfinal.

Rajat Patidar is leading Central Zone in Jurel's absence.

Riyan Parag is leading East Zone in ill Abhimanyu Easwaran's absence.

Part of India’s Test squad for England tour, Dhruv Jurel and Abhimanyu Easwaran are not part of playing XIs for their respective sides in Duleep Trophy 2025 quarterfinals. Jurel is a standby for the T20 Asia Cup 2025 and has been told by selectors to skip Central Zone’s game against North East Zone.

Jurel played the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in the absence of an injured Rishabh Pant. He is among five standby players for the T20 Asia Cup 2025 starting September 9.

"Jurel has picked up a groin niggle on the eve of the match and he has been asked to skip this match by the selectors," a BCCI source told TOI.

"He is also in the standbys of the Asia Cup squad and the selectors don't want to take any risk. Right after the Asia Cup, India will be playing four Test matches at home and with uncertainty over (Rishabh) Pant's injury, Jurel has been asked not to take any risk."

In Jurel's absence, Aryan Juyal is keeping wickets and Rajat Patidar is leading Central Zone.

Opportunity missed by Easwaran

On the other hand, Easwaran who warmed the benches for the entire Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, caught a flu on the morning of the Duleep Trophy match. In Ishan Kishan and Easwaran's absence, Riyan Parag is leading the East Zone side against North Zone.

This is a huge opportunity missed for Easwaran as he will be looking to prove his mettle ahead of the two-Test series against West Indies in October.

Easwaran has a good record in Duleep Trophy. He has scored 661 runs from eight innings at an average of 55.08, including four centuries.
