One Day International cricket witnessed another day of records during the first ODI between Netherlands and England. The current ODI champions posted the highest score in ODI cricket history of 498 runs. They then bundled their opponents for 266 runs as England secured a 232-run victory over their opponents.

The 2nd ODI was much more competitive, although it was England to triumphed yet again, this time by six wickets. Dutch fans of the game were faced with more bad news after the game when skipper Peter Seelaar announced his retirement from the game.

Seelaar has played 57 ODIs and 77 T20Is for the Netherlands during his long of 17 years career. However, Indian cricket fans will remember him as the bowler who took the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Irfan Pathan in the 2011 World Cup.

The 34-year-old chose to hang his boots after suffering from a persistent back injury. After the second ODI of the three-match series between England and the Netherlands on Sunday, Seelar said, "since the year 2020, my back problem is getting worse and worse. I am not able to perform my 100 per cent."

Seelar made his debut for the Netherlands in 2005. Initially coming into the team as a miserly left-arm spinner, he later improved his batting as well and also played an important role in the middle order.

The Netherlands skipper was also a part of the historic Dutch side that defeated England in the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup and five years later beat England in Bangladesh in the same tournament. His best bowling performance in ODIs was 4/15, while in T20Is he has recorded four wickets and given away just 19 runs. His highest score with the bat is an unbeaten 138 as well, which came during a four-day match against Hong Kong in February 2017.
