Star Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has landed in trouble with the Pakistan Cricket Board after a controversial post on social media about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The board has issued him a show-cause notice, alleging he may have violated the rules in his central contract.

What did Naseem post on Social media?

The issue started when a post from Naseem’s X (formerly Twitter) account appeared to criticise Maryam Nawaz. In the post, he reacted to a PCB update and wrote, “Why is she treated like the Queen at Lord’s?” which was a remark that seemed to question the special attention given to her.

This happened just before the start of the Pakistan Super League, where Naseem is playing for Rawalpindi Pindiz, one of the two new teams this season.

The situation became more sensitive because the PCB had recently announced that PSL matches would be held without spectators. Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the decision was taken to save fuel during the ongoing West Asia crisis and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.

However, during the opening match at Gaddafi Stadium, several important guests were present. Maryam Nawaz was seen arriving with a large security convoy and later interacting with players from both teams, including Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen.

PCB's take on Naseem's social media post

Shortly after the post went viral, it was deleted. A new message appeared on Naseem’s account claiming that it had been hacked and later recovered.

But the PCB did not seem convinced. About a day later, the board said Naseem had violated its media policy and the terms of his contract. While the exact rule wasn’t mentioned, it is believed to relate to a clause in the code of conduct that addresses players’ behaviour on public platforms. The board is expected to decide further action after receiving Naseem’s response.
