Former India opener Virender Sehwag, who won the World Cup with India in 2011, said that the entire country will want to see their favourite batter Virat Kohli lift the coveted ICC ODI World Cup 2023 trophy in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, when the ultimate match is held on November 19.

Sehwag compared such a moment in the future to when the team under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, won the trophy for the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, turning the tournament into a fitting farewell.

Speaking after the World Cup fixtures were announced on Monda, Virender Sehwag said that Virat Kohli deserves to finish on a high, and winning the World Cup will be a crown jewel in the star batter's glittering career.

"We played that World Cup for Tendulkar. If we won the World Cup, it would have been a great exit for Sachin paaji. Virat Kohli is the same now. Everybody will look to win the World Cup for him. He always gives more than 100 percent," Sehwag told Star Sports.

"I think Virat Kohli is also looking to this World Cup. 100,000 people will watch you at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat knows how the pitches will behave. I am sure he will score a lot of runs and he will do his best to win the World Cup for India," he added.

The last time India played in a World Cup in 2019, Virat Kohli was still India's ODI skipper. The 34-year-old's recent form in limited-overs cricket has been especially impressive and the batter will want to create a mark in what might be his last ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will lead India in the 2023 World Cup, which gets underway on October 5. India will commence their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
