India's World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth lashed out at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after Ruturaj Gaikwad missed his spot in the upcoming three-match T20I and ODI series against Sri Lana scheduled to start from July 27. Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the new captain for the T20I and young opener Shubman Gill will be his deputy. The Board also added Riyan Parag in the squad.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead in T20Is and Rohit Sharma will lead India in ODIS where Gill will be the vice captain for both T20Is and ODIs. Gill recently led team India in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe where Men in Blue won the series by 4-1. Srikkanth said that Gaikwad has to score more runs to be selected for the squad.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad is an automatic choice for T20is. Rutu should score more runs and selectors should see him, because everyone is not Shubman Gill to have a good zodiac sign” said Kris Srikkanth on his youtube channel.
Ruturaj Gaikwad's performance against Zimbabwe
Gaikwad batted on three occasions in the recently concluded five-match T20i series against Zimbabwe. He scored 7,77 and 49 runs respectively. But despite this, Gaikwad was kept out of both formats. While Riyan Parag, who went on the Zimbabwe tour, has now got a chance in the ODI Team India as well. Apart from this, Abhishek Sharma, who scored a century in the Zimbabwe tour, could not become a part of the T20 Team India. Gaikwad has so far scored 115 runs in 6 ODIs and 633 runs in 23 T20s for India. The three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka will start from July 27.
