Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack on March 24 morning during the Dhaka Premier Divison Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in Savar, outskirts of Dhaka.
Attempts to airlift him to Dhaka via a helicopter were made but it was not possible as his condition worsened on the way. Later, the former Bangladesh opener was taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital for further treatment.
“He underwent initial checks at a local hospital, where mild heart issues were suspected. Efforts were made to transport him to Dhaka, but on the way to the helipad, he experienced severe chest pain and had to be rushed back. Medical reports later confirmed it was a massive heart attack,” said Dr Debashish Chowdhury, chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as quoted by Sportstar.
“It is a difficult time for all of us. He is currently under observation, and the medical team is doing everything possible for his recovery.
''He is currently under observation. This is all the information available at the moment. We are heading to the hospital, and further updates will be provided later,'' he added.
As per a report by Bangladesh's Daily Star, Iqbal's one of the two arteries is 100 per cent blocked.
"Nafees Iqbal and his mother are here now. The doctors did an angiogram. Out of his two arteries, one is 100 percent blocked another is partially blocked," match referee Debabrata Paul told the Bangladesh daily.
