Former Mumbai Indians batter accused of rape, FIR lodged in Jodhpur

The Baroda cricketer was roped in by Mumbai Indians in the mini-auction for his base price but did not get a chance to make his IPL debut.

Amidst Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, a rape case has been registered against former Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Shivalik Sharma. According to reports, the case was filed at Kudi Bahgatsani police station in Jodhupur, Rajasthan. The medical examination of the victim along with her statement in the court has been registered. The police is currently looking for Shivalik who has been accused of having physical relations on the pretext of marriage. 

“A woman, a resident of Sector 2, Kudi Bhagatasani, has levelled allegations against cricketer Shivalik Sharma. The woman had gone for a walk in Vadodara in February 2023, where she met Shivalik. Their friendship gradually turned into a romantic relationship, and they would speak for hours over the phone. Both families met in 2023, and the couple got engaged. After their engagement, they engaged in physical relations,” ACP Anand Rajpurohit said.

 

 

In August 2024, the girl alleged that Shivalik called her to Baroda where the cricketer's parents broke off the engagement. The parents said that they were looking for someone else for their son.

In IPL 2024 mini-auction, Shivalik was picked for his base price of Rs 20 lakh. He did not get to make his debut in the previous season. For Baroda, he has played under the leadership of Krunal Pandya who now plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Shivalik's first-class, One-Day and T20 career

Shivalik made his first-class debut for Baroda as a teenager in 2018 and got out for a four-ball duck against Chattisgarh. So far, the left-handed batter has scored 1,087 runs from 18 first-class games at an average of 43.48 including three centuries and five half-centuries. His high score in the format is 188. With the ball, he has just one wicket.

He made his white-ball debut in domestic cricket in 2023. From 13 One-Day games, he has scored 322 runs at an average of 29.27. He has two fifties but is yet to score a century in List A cricket. The leg-spinner has two wickets to his name as well.

In T20s, he has scored 349 runs from 17 games at an average of 24.92 and strike rate of 147.88. He has two half-centuries to his name in the fast-paced format.
