After getting signed by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 1.1 crore at the mega auction, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi took Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by storn once he made his debut. Suryavanshi featured in a total of seven matches in IPL 2025, scoring 252 runs and striking the ball at an explosive rate of 206.55.

The left-hand batter also scored a sensational 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans to not only become the youngest batter to score a century in T20 cricket but also become the Indian to score the fastest century in the league. Though the Rajasthan-based franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs, the teenage sensation rose to insane popularity and even started getting compared to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar as both of them started their journeys quite young and broke several records as mere teenagers.
However, former India cricketer Venkatapathy Raju rubbished all such comparisons and pointed out how Tendulkar had scored centuries in multiple domestic tournaments before making his international debut.
"It depends on the consistency, right? We're a firm believer. We might talk about somebody like Sachin, right? First, Ranji Trophy debut, he got 100. Duleep Trophy, he got 100. Rest of India, he got 100, right? All three-day games. All four-day games. All five-day games. So, like that, I think when you know the talent, we should give him enough time to go and play, do well, and you feel that he's really good enough and he can perform, why not? We can still bring him in," Raju told Hindistan Times.
Raju also believes that it will take a lot of time for Suryavanshi to make it to India's senior men's team and will first have to impress in the U-19 World Cup as well as domestic cricket.
"Yes, yes, he will take a lot of time. He has to be one of those guys who needs to well in U-19 World Cups. He has to perform quite a bit in domestic cricket. Four-day games. And we can give time. See, talent-wise, we've already seen him, what he can do with a white ball, right?" Raju stated.
Meanwhile, Suryavanshi is currently with the India U19 team in England where the side will be playing a warm-up 50-over match, five ODIs and two Tests from June 24. The 14-year-old is a part of the squad which is captained by Ayush Mhatre, another player who was highly impressive in his debut IPL campaign. This will be a golden opportunity for Suryavanshi to prove that he can perform well in overseas conditions as well.
