Australia’s hard-hitting batter Glenn Maxwell played a knock that made him immortal. The Mumbai weather led to him facing cramps but the Afghanistan bowling lineup could not cramp him for room as he was a man on a mission. After getting dropped and overturning umpire’s decision using DRS, Maxwell went haywire and single-handedly led Australia to their biggest-ever successful run chase in World Cups.

After Maxwell’s match-winning six helped him become the first man on the planet to hit a double ton in an ODI run chase, his 10-year-old tweet went viral on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Remember when 200 was a winning score in an ODI? #chaseitdownin20thesedays,” Maxwell wrote in a tweet on April 23, 2013.

“It was hot while fielding today, I haven't done a lot of exercise in the heat, it got a hold on me today. I wanted to stay back and get some movement (on my legs). Not too much (when asked about plans at 92/7), just stick to the batting plans as much as possible, for me, still be positive, still look to play my shots, that LBW, it was going just above (the stumps), probably that made me be more proactive,” Maxwell said in the post-match presentation on November 7.

“A hint of swing and nip (off the surface), as it happens here under lights, they bowled beautifully to exploit that. It would have been nice if it was a chanceless knock, but I had my chances, to make the most of it tonight was something I can be proud of. Amazing, after the first two games, people were quick to write us off. The belief was always there (as a team), after today, it would have gone a bit higher.”

After suffering from cramps that made it tough for him even walk between the wickets for a single, skipper Pat Cummins in the post-match press conference revealed that he should be fit for Australia’s last league clash on November 11 against Bangladesh.

"I'm sure, he (Maxwell) will be fine. He was cramping but I think you saw out there how much he loves playing for Australia and do anything to play. So, I'm sure it'll be fine,” Cummins said.
