His explosive knock built directly on the momentum of his maiden T20I ton as captain, a brilliant effort against Pakistan in Pallekele during the T20 World Cup earlier in February.

Before Brook’s record-breaking run, reaching multiple T20I hundreds as skipper in a single year was an achievement exclusive to Associate nations, previously accomplished only by Eswatini's Adil Butt (who notched three in 2026) and Switzerland's Faheem Nazir (who hit two in 2022).

However, Brook's stellar 2026 campaign—yielding 634 runs across 17 appearances—has set a new gold standard for English leaders in the format. While Babar still holds the all-time international record for most T20I runs by a captain in a single year (939 runs from 29 matches in 2021), Brook now stands unmatched in English cricket history.

His record-breaking knock in the T20I opener against Sri Lanka was a masterclass in controlled aggression. Off just 49 deliveries, Brook dismantled the opposition with 10 boundaries and 6 massive sixes. The foundation of his unbeaten 114 was a blistering 128-run second-wicket stand off 60 balls alongside Jos Buttler (80 off 44), followed by handy middle-order partnerships of 36 with Tom Banton and 59 with Will Jacks to round out a dominant performance.
