Following their recent defeat to South Africa in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) at Lord's, Australia will be beginning their Caribbean tour against West Indies from June 25 with a three-match Test series. They will also be featuring in a five-match T20I series that will begin later from July 21.
Ahead of the first Test at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, former Australia cricketer Ian Headly took a brutal swipe at West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph. This came after the latter had issued a warning to 19-year-old Australia batter Sam Konstas stating, "Just look out, that’s all."
Healy was highly critical of Joseph's comments on Konstas
In a scathing rant, Healy slammed Joseph for his comments on Konstas and stated that the West Indies quick has had a terrible year so far and needs to improve a lot if he wants to remain in the team.
"He’s had a terrible year since he went through us at the Gabba. He had this toe that had blown up and didn’t think he could play, he got out of his injury bed after someone said just come down and try it, and then he realised ‘oh you can play with pain. Shamar has come out today and said to Konstas’ just look out and watch what is coming’," Healy said on SENQ Breakfast.
"OK Shamar well you’ve delivered crap all year. So he better improve, that’s what I’m saying in the dressing room. He’s got real trouble. You’re not Curtly Ambrose, champ," he added.
Healy further commented on the Australian team management deciding to drop Marnus Labuschagne from the squad following the batter's poor form in the format. The former Australia wicketkeeper-batter belives that the 31-year-old will make a comeback into the team as he has got age on his side.
"They’re still, you know, recognising his value, and they (the selectors) expect him to work his way through it. He’s only 30/31. He’s got time. I would certainly put it up as a suggestion, Marnus to Glamorgan and give him a lot of breathing space and time to really," Healy said.
"Now that it’s done, you know, the uncertainty whether I’m gonna get dropped or whether I’m playing. That’s probably been the last 6 months for him. Now he can breathe. Now get your technique right and get playing," he added.
Meanwhile, the Baggy Greens will also be without the services of Steve Smith for the first Test as he is still recovering from the finger injury that he sutained during the WTC final. It will be interesting to see how the Australian batting order will perform in the Caribbean without both Labuschagne and Smith in the mix at least for the first match.
