Huge setback for Australian fast bowler as he suffers fractured shoulder while taking a catch, ruled out from entire tournament

Hobart Hurricanes' Billy Stanlake experienced discomfort and left the field after bowling just one over in the clash against Melbourne Renegades on January 14.

Australia fast bowler Billy Stanlake has suffered a fracture in his right shoulder. Hobbart Hurricanes' Stanlake got injured while taking the catch of Melbourne Renegades opener Josh Brown. He has been ruled out for the remainder of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25. 

Stanlake left the field after bowling just one over. He was taken for a Q-scan and did not take further part in the game. In his absence, Hobart Hurricanes beat Melbourne Renegades by four wickets. They are at the top of the points table with six wins from eight games and have booked their spot in the finals. 

There is no update on his expected return to domestic cricket. 

Stanlake's statistics in international cricket 

The 30-year-old last represented Australia in 2019 in a T20I match against Pakistan where he bowled an economical spell and remained wicketless. His last ODI appearance was against India in 2019 where he remained wicketless and conceded 49 runs. So far, he has played seven ODIs and 19 T20Is so far.

Sydney Thunder lose Sams' services

The second-placed Sydney Thunder have suffered a setback as well. Their fast-bowling all-rounder Daniel Sams who was involved in a collission with Cameron Bancroft has been ruled out of the tournament as well. Sams released a statement thanking the support he has got so far.

"I just want to express my gratitude and thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout my recovery," Sams said. "The messages of encouragement and care have meant so much to me during this time.

"I'm super disappointed not to be out there on the field, contributing to the success the boys are having and being part of the push for the title. But I'm incredibly proud of this group and excited to see what they can achieve for the rest of the season."

 

 

The league stage matches will go on till January 18. Hurricanes have two games left whereas Thunder have one game to play before the qualifiers.
