Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh congratulated his ex-teammate Mithun Manhas on becoming BCCI's new President. Manhas, who formerly captained Delhi and played for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2014, played with Harbhajan during their U-19 days. The ex-India spinner feels that a former cricketer heading the Indian cricket board is a good thing and added that players should always give back to the game.
“It is a good decision when a cricketer heads the body of cricket as his experience is valuable. This has been happening for the last three terms. It is always positive for a cricketer to give back to the game. I have played a lot of cricket with Mithun, starting from our Under-19 days, and I am very happy for him," Harbhajan said, speaking to reporters.
Harbhajan believes that Manhas will help in improving facilities and this will massively help the future generation of players. He further pointed out that cricket is now reaching smaller places in the country and a lot of stadiums are currently being built.
“I hope that the challenges he faced as a cricketer, in terms of facilities, will inspire him to do a good job for the coming generation. No child should be left behind due to infrastructure issues," Harbhajan stated.
“A lot of development is currently underway. Across India, new grounds are being built. You can see a significant setup in Pondicherry for cricket. Cricket is reaching smaller places, and this credit goes to the BCCI. I hope Mithun will continue this legacy and strive to do even better," he concluded.
Manhas' first-class record
Meanwhile, despite not playing a single international match, Manhas did have a brilliant first-class career with Delhi. The former batter played a total of 157 matches in first-class cricket, scoring 9714 runs, including 27 hundreds and 49 half-centuries. He maintained a sensational average of 45.82 in the format and had the highest individual score of 205*.
