'I haven't received any calls...': Ex-KKR skipper sends big IPL retention message to Kolkata-based franchise

Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction is around the corner and the franchises have to shortlist the players. A franchise can retain up to six players from the 2024 squad - including a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped Indian players - before the mega auction. Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nitish Rana who has been an integral part of the franchise for the last seven years and is also considered as one of the senior members in the KKR dressing room. Now, the chances of   KKR retaining him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction seem quite slim. 

Rana opened up on his future with the franchise and he reminded KKR that he is a consistent performer for the franchise in the cash-rich league. 

"I have been serving KKR for the past seven years. It's not in my hands if I will be retained; it's up to KKR management to decide. I haven't received any calls yet. I have scored runs for KKR every year and if they consider me an asset, they will retain me," Rana said while speaking to Times Of India.

Rana captained KKR for IPL 2023 when regular skipper Shreyas Iyer was out from the whole tournament because of injury. The Kolkata-based franchise will enter the upcoming IPL season as defending champions. Shreyas-Iyer & Co. defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final to lift their third title of the tournament. 

Gautam Gambhir part ways with KKR

Current India head coach Gautam Gambhir was the mentor of KKR during IPL 2024 but he has to leave his duties with the IPL franchise to guide Team India. The franchise has signed Dwayne Bravo as their mentor for the upcoming season of the tournament.
